1st Doctor's Appointment

We had our first doctors appointment. We had an ultrasound done to measure the baby to see how far along we are. We figured out that we are 8 weeks along! We got to hear and see the heart beat and small pictures of the baby. It is about 1/2 inch long! The doctor was looking to see if there was more than one in there but she couldn't tell!.....I guess we will find out later. (That is kind of exciting but nerve racking at the same time)!

Confirming Pregnancy

I wanted to go into the doctor's office to confirm that I was pregnant because I have looked at a lot of things that tell about each week of pregnancy and I have had no or felt no symptoms of being pregnant. I can't yet wrap my head around the thought of me being pregnant and I didn't want to start telling people (like our families for Christmas) if I wasn't really preggo. I went to the doctor's and they took a urine sample and blood test and confirmed that I was pregnant. The first pregnancy appointment is on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 to have an ultrasound to figure out how far along I am! We are excited.

A side note: We were up at my parents (the Stuart's) on Friday, December 9, 2011 for a Stuart family Christmas party and got drilled by my family about having kids. We played it off like we aren't going to have kids for a while but little do they know we are already pregnant! We can't wait to start telling them and see their reactions on Christmas!

The Beginning Of A New Life

Yesterday, I found out I was pregnant and shared that news with Jarom today. It kind of happened abruptly and this is the story:
I had been getting a little curious because since I had been off of birth control, I never knew when that time of the month would happen and I didn't ever keep track. I was really busy student teaching and working from September-November so I never really paid attention to the cycles to see if they were 28 days apart etc. I was thinking at the end of November that I hadn't had a cycle for a while or at least I couldn't remember when the last time was. I had a friend once say that she just knew she was pregnant and I didn't quite understand how that would have been possible until I felt the same feelings. I had multiple times where I felt like I was pregnant and then one day I just knew that I was pregnant. I then had a dream that I peed on a piece of paper and it said I was pregnant.

Out of curiosity, I wanted to take a pregnancy test to see if what I had been dreaming and feeling was true. I started taking a pregnancy test (thinking Jarom wouldn't be home for a while so I could prepare to tell him if I was) but then Jarom walked in the door. I didn't even look at the pregnancy test I just threw it away because I didn't want Jarom to know I was taking a pregnancy test. The next day I was curious to see what the test read. I searched through the garbage and saw that the test had two lines which means pregnant. I didn't believe the test because I thought since I had waited so long the test results could have been miscued. I went to work and took a pregnancy test with me. I asked my co-worker Rachel if that could be possible that the test read positive after that amount of time and it wasn't "laying flat". (I am new to this so I didn't know if that really mattered). She said it still means I am pregnant and told me to go take the test I had with me. I did and then checked it later. It had one bold line and one faint line. I couldn't tell if that meant I was preggo or not. Rachel went and looked at it and confirmed I was definitely preggo! After finding that out, it was hard to control my emotions. I didn't know what to think and I was thinking of a way to tell Jarom.

I came home from work and could not sleep because everything was running through my mind with me thinking if this was really real that I was actually preggo and how or when I would tell Jarom. I thought of an idea: I have a friend from school, Kylie who just had a baby, and my whole school ELED cohort that was student teaching had just graduated. So I told Jarom that on Saturday, (today), we were going to visit Kylie who just had her baby and because we just graduated, we were going to make a class scrapbook and Kylie's sister would take our picture. (This was not true but I wanted an excuse for Jarom to get dressed because I wanted to film Jarom finding out I was pregnant and I wanted him decent). I had previously made what I wanted to present to Jarom when we found out we were preggo so all I had to do was figure out a way to tell him and set it up.

Saturday morning: Jarom woke up and told me that he would just shower and get ready after school before we went to Kylie's, (which ruins him being dressed but I couldn't tell him that so I just let him be in sweats). Telling Jarom was nothing at all of what I expected. I had an idea telling Jarom that we had a visitor (which is the baby) and I had everything on the kitchen table so Jarom would look at it and know. Well, someone called Jarom while he was walking up the stairs so Jarom was on the phone when he walked in the house. Luckily, Jarom couldn't see what was on the table so it didn't ruin it, but I had Jarom quickly get off of the phone and look at the table. He came over and just stared. He didn't really have anything to say he was just staring at it trying to figure out if it was a joke or if it was real. After I told him it was real, he gave me a hug and still couldn't talk. We were both still in shock and I still am! The lines on the pregnancy test were a little faint but I took another one and it is for sure, two bold lines. Now I am waiting until Monday to call my doctor and get an appointment to hear it from her for a surety!

We had been off of birth control since June and we hadn't gotten pregnant since. We were thinking about going to Madagascar but wanted a baby first so we turned down the idea. After a few more months, we decided we would go to Madagascar since that would be the best time without kids and we may never have the chance again to visit Jarom's mission, and then try to get pregnant when we got back. So during the time from when we committed until we were to get home, we planned on being really careful to try not to get pregnant until after Madagascar, but that didn't happen. I think we got pregnant before we committed to Madagascar but didn't know until today!

We are both still a little shocked about the whole idea about being pregnant but we are so very excited!!!!

This is what I did for Jarom to tell him I was preggo:

I did film it but the video is boring because we both were sitting there in shock not knowing what to do. I talked to Jarom later and he said that he pictured himself jumping up and down and screaming for joy when he found out I was pregnant but he said he wasn't expecting this in the slightest since we took a break from it because we are on our way to Madagascar in 1 month!
